Bernice Helene (Graves) Coombes

Belmont, NY - Bernice Helene (Graves) Coombes, 102, of 5286 State Route 19 north went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Absolute of Houghton. She was born on September, 23, 1911 at home in Scio, the daughter of the late Edward E. and Olive Morey (Ackerman) Graves. On June 25, 1938 at her mother's home in Scio she married Wilburt J. Coombes who predeceased her on May 3, 1995.

Bernice graduated from Scio High School in 1928. In 1929 she started working for Newberry's in Wellsville and graduated from Westbrook Business School in Olean. She was later employed by the Allegany County Farm Bureau, Allegany County Department of Social Services, the Town of Amity Public Works Department, the Cecil Mathern Abstract Company and the Allegany County Clerk's Office; retiring January 1, 1977.

She was a member of the Scio Methodist Church and attended the Belmont Methodist Church. She was a member of the Scio Seniors Sunshine Club, and enjoyed the senior dinners at the Belmont American Legion. In her earlier years she was a member of the "Hobby Club" where she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and giving most of her projects away.

She is survived by a son, William "Bill" Coombes of Belmont, two daughters, Jeanne Veno of Olean and Jill (David) Weaver of Arkport, two grandchildren, Jennifer Burdett and Darryl (Nicole) Seaman, two great grandchildren, Christian Jessup and Alex Burdett, as well as several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a five month old daughter, Sally Ann Coombes, two sisters, Lovina Marie Graves and Oriole Graves, and two brothers, Clyde "Bing" Graves and Clair "Spiz" Graves.

Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., 17 Schuyler Street in Belmont. The funeral will be on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 11am in the Belmont First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Roberta Baker presiding. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Scio. Edward G. Hanchett

Belmont, NY - Edward G. Hanchett, 83, of 5418 State Route 19 N. passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Wellsville Manor Care Center with his family at his side. He was born July 7, 1930 in Bolivar the son of the late Clyde and Lottie (Smith) Hanchett. On September 4, 1953 in Angelica, he married Sally Barker who survives.

Ed was a graduate of Belmont High School and was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving with the military police in Korea and Japan. He owned and operated a dairy farm in Belmont for many years; before becoming a heavy equipment operator for Blades Construction Company in Belmont. He and Sally later founded and operated Hanchett's Sundae Drive in Belmont.

Surviving  in addition to his wife are six children, Pam (John) Margeson of Scio, Doug (Gretchen) Hanchett of Belmont, Cathy (Ray Torres) Tosh of Belmont, Janine (Tim) Zombek of Lexington, KY, Dan (Becky) Hanchett of Belmont and Betsy (John) Hardy of Black Creek, 13 grandchildren, Stacey, Craig, Jenny, Cassie, Jason, Amanda, Chris, Josh, Matt, Danielle, Sarah, Jacob and Nathan, seven great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kim Thompson, two sisters, Anna Mae Aylor and Laura Jean Marsh and one brother, Donald Hanchett.

Friends are invited to call on Monday from 4:00 to7:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., 17 Schuyler Street in Belmont. A Memorial Mass for Patrick Quinn will be celebrated on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Immaculate Conception Church, 36 Maple Avenue in Wellsville. Pat passed away on April 30, 2014 at his home in Tucson, Arizona.

Paul J. Blitz Memorial Mass


A Memorial Mass for Paul Blitz will be celebrated on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Immaculate Conception Church, 36 Maple Avenue in Wellsville. Burial with military honors will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Paul passed away on February 24, 2014.

Donald E. Wilson Sr.

Bath, NY - Donald E. Wilson Sr., age 67, of the Babcock Road passed away on Tuesday June 17, 2014 in Corning Hospital in Corning, New York. He was born in Coudersport Pennsylvania on July 4, 1946 to Charles and Dorothy Haupt Wilson. Don had been married to Ann Searle who survives.

Don graduated from Wellsville High School and in 1969 he graduated from Ithaca College where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He was the Director of probation of Tompkins County and was a member of the Newfield Lions Club. After a tragic accident in 1980 Don was blessed with numerous care givers at the Pine Crest Home in Avoca and later at the Country Valley Home in Bath.

He is survived by his daughter, Bridgette Wilson Norton of Akron; 2 grand daughters, Allison and Grace Norton; several nieces and nephews who loved him.

Don was predeceased by his parents; a son Donald E."Donnie" Wilson Jr.; a brother Wallace "Wally" Wilson; a sister Gloria Peet.

Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Saturday June 21 at 11 am in the Sacred Heart Cemetery on South Main Street in Wellsville. Colleen D. Dixon

Wellsville, NY - Colleen D. Dixon, age 63, of the Baldwin Road passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014, in her home. She was born on July 3, 1950 in Wellsville to Donald and Arletta Hall Dixon who have predeceased her.

Colleen was a lifelong resident of Wellsville who graduated from Wellsville High School in 1969. She worked hard despite her physical limitations and always held two jobs.  Colleen will be best remembered by many for working at Sarge's Sub shop and later at Dixon's Sub shop. She also had worked for the former Citizens Bank, A & M Bowling and for Jones Memorial Hospital. Colleen enjoyed hunting, bowling and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her brother David (Peggy) Dixon of Wellsville; her sister Beverly Dixon of Wellsville; a nephew Joshua Dixon; a niece Jasmine Dixon and a great niece Aleeya.
