Hartrick J. "Bud" Brownell Sr.


Wellsville, NY - Hartrick J. "Bud" Brownell Sr., age 85, of the 106 Road passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Jones Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on March 2, 1927 in
Alma to James H. and Flossie Schram Brownell. On July 28, 1947 he married Virginia Empson who predeceased him on December 14, 1992.

 Bud, who graduated from Wellsville High School, was a lifelong resident of the Wellsville Area. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Panama Canal Zone as a military policeman. After the service Bud worked in the oil fields for many years and then retired from the Rochester Button Factory. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and trap. He was a charter member of the Alma Rod and Gun Club where he held the office of President for many years. In his spare time Bud grew potatoes that where know as "Buds Spuds".

Survivors include: 4 sons, Hartrick (Patty) "Butch" Brownell Jr., Larry (Kathy) Brownell, Gary Brownell and Mike (Sherry) Brownell; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grand children; a sister Phyllis Winborne; 2 brothers, Jack Brownell and Jim Brownell; several nieces and nephews.

Beside his loving wife he was predeceased by 3 sisters, Rose Hunt, Jean Farwell and Joyce Jackson; 2 brothers, Sam "Leon" Brownell and Richard "Dick" Brownell; a granddaughter, Monique Brownell.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, February 5, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. His funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday in the Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Miller presiding and burial in York's Corners Cemetery. Following the burial a remembrance lunch will be held at the Alma Rod and Gun Club. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alma Rod and Gun Club, Bud Brownell Kids Fishing Derby, PO Box 181 Wellsville, New York, 14895.
