Huntsville, Texas - Eleanor Knorr Lanphear Darmody, age 90, a former resident of Wellsville passed away September 15, 2011 at the Ella Smither Geriatric Center in Huntsville, Texas. She was born in Brockway, Pennsylvania on May 12, 1921 to Harry and Fern Closser Knorr. She grew up in Angelica and graduated from Angelica High School in 1938.Eleanor held numerous jobs in Wellsville prior to moving to Houston, Texas in 1967. Eleanor moved to Huntsville, Texas in 2006.
Survivors include: 4 daughters, Barbara (Robert) Piscitelli of Wellsville, Beverly (Lance) Bennett of Batavia, Nancy (Dick) Mills of Huntsville, TX., and Judith (Bill) Wiemann of Houston, TX. Eleven grandchildren: Debbie Pinney, Lisa Arnone, Dean Piscitelli, Kelly Bennett, Krista Gibbs, Kurt Bennett, Dennis Mills, Doug Mills, Jackie Valastro, Gus Garza and Larry Manth: 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was predeceased in death by her parents, Harry and Fern; her husband Bernard Darmody who died on January 7, 1981; her first husband and Father of their children, Alton Lanphear on August 20, 1982 and her brother, Earl Knorr who died on January 7, 2002
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, September 21, from 10 am to 12 noon at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. Her Funeral Service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours in the Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Eastlack presiding. Burial will take place in Fairlawn Cemetery and memorials in Eleanor's name may be made to either the Comfort House of Allegany County at 141 East State Street, Wellsville, NY. 14895, or to the American Cancer Society.
