We are so sorry for your loss and the loss to so many people. Bob was a special man and I will always appreciate his wise counsel and perspective. He was the kind of person that I just loved to sit and chat with. He had so much to offer and was so personable. While I will miss him greatly, I am grateful that he is at peace now. Our family will be praying for strength and comfort to sustain you through this time of great loss.

  3. Bob and I became acquainted during our student days at Virginia Tech and stayed in contact over the years. It was always interesting to hear about his teaching experiences at Alfred, his law practice, his community work and his golf game. We enjoyed Hokie sports and marvelled together at the improvement since our student days. Bob was well regarded by his classmates and will be missed by the Hokie Nation.

  4. Jo Anne, Sally, Gale and Families,
I first met Bob when he shared an apartment with two other bachelors across the hall from me in Woodlawn, MD - the year was 1968. Bob's fun, relaxed personality and his guitar playing drew a crowd every weekend for sing-a-longs, snacks and good company. Many changes took place in Bob's life and in mine over the years, but he always stayed in touch. He was a sincere and loyal friend - stopping by yearly on his trips from Wellsville to Annapolis.
I'd like to share one funny story about Bob: The year was 1972, and my 8-month-old son needed to be rushed to the hospital for stitches to his face after a nasty fall. My husband wasn't home, so Bob drove us to the emergency room. I still have the papers from that E.R. visit . . . "Robert Hutter" is listed as the father.
I'm so sorry that Bob never got the opportunity to retire to his land on the golf course in the Carolina's. I believe Bob had a lot more that he wanted to do . . he was taken away much too soon.
I know you will miss Bob in many ways, and I share your loss.

    Sincerely,
    Becky Myers

  5. I was fortunate to get to know Bob during the summer of 2007, when he hired me to drive him to Hornell a few times a week for treatment. During our time together, Bob offered me innumerable pieces of valuable advice for advancing my education and career. I was struck by his rare ability to combine an incredible depth of knowledge/breadth of experience with sincere humility and personability. I remember Bob fondly and am grateful for the time I had with him. RIP, you kind and brilliant man, I miss you.
