Helen I. Post

Wellsville - Helen I. Post formerly of the Hallsport Road passed away on Friday January 23 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on March 5, 1922 in Friendship to William J. and Hilda [McClay] Crandall. Helen was married to Howard E. Post who predeceased her in 1973.

Helen was a long time employee of the Texas Hot Restaurant in Wellsville and retired from there after 33 years in 1986. She enjoyed watching soap operas on television.

She is survived by a daughter Patricia Post of Wellsville; a granddaughter Angela Jones of New York, New York; a sister Alice Knox of Buffalo as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister Dorothy Robbins.

Friends are invited to call on Monday January 26 from 6-8 pm in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday in the Funeral Home at 11 am with Rev. Diane Cox presiding. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery and memorials in Helen’s name may be made the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Linda J. Hicks

Alma, NY - Linda J. Hicks, 50, of 6619 County Road 18 died on Monday January 12, 2009 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, following a lingering illness. She was born July 10, 1958 in Hornell, NY the daughter of the late Levi and Janice (Mix) Williams. Linda was raised in the Bolivar area. She was formerly employed by the Trucklite Corporation in Coudersport, PA and the Belvidere Truck Stop.

She is survived by four children, Tonya (Rocky) Davis and Chad (Crystal) Hicks both of Cooleemee, NC, Justin Haynes and Shane Haynes both at home, her long time companion Francis “Jake” Haynes of Alma, four grandchildren, 3 sisters, Deborah Horner of Allegany, Kathy (Donald) Irish of Bolivar and Laurie (Cliff) Hewitt of Portville, 2 brothers, John (Sandra) Williams of Bolivar and Daniel Williams of Lyons, GA, as well as several nieces & nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Friday, January 16, 2009 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will follow visitation at 2:00 pm in the funeral home with Rev. David Herne presiding.

Juanita Del Busto

Wellsville: - Juanita Del Busto of Maple Ave. passed away on Thursday January 8, 2009 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was born on September 22, 1920 in Mexico City D.F. Mexico to Abraham and Esperenza Valenzuela Sanchez. On May 2, 1938 in Manhattan she married Emilio Del Busto who predeceased her on August 12, 2000.

Juanita was a volunteer Spanish teacher at the Immaculate Conception School at which she enjoyed very much. She also was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Church.

She is survived by a son, Emilio del Busto of Wellsville; 5 grandchildren, Emilio, Elena, Arianna, Peter and Amy and a great granddaughter Gianna.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Monday January 12 at 10 am in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. Monsignor Vincent Becker is will be the celebrant and burial will take place in Alfred Rural Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W.Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville.

Donna M. Rahr

Scio, NY - Donna M. Rahr, 71, of 4930 County Road 31 died on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born October 3, 1937 in Wellsville, the daughter of Howard and Mary (Beal) Magee. On July 24, 1965 in Stannards she married Richard J. Rahr who survives.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter, Linda (William) Baker of Addison, NY and a son, John (Melanie) Rahr of Millport, NY, four grandchildren, Maggie Stevens, Teague Baker, and Meredith and Thomas Rahr who affectionately called her Donna the Great, a sister, Marjorie (James) Goodspeed of Howard, NY and several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a brother, James Magee of Wadsworth, IL.

Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the SPCA Serving Allegany County, P.O. Box 381, Wellsville, NY 14895. Arrangements are under the direction of the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. of Wellsville.

Richard “Dick” Oliver Arnold

Wellsville, NY - Richard “Dick” Oliver Arnold, 77, died December 30, 2008 at Jones Memorial Hospital with loved ones at his side. He was born in Buffalo on November 13, 1931 the son of Virginia B. (Beebe) Palmer; his adoptive parents were Oliver L. and Ruth B. (Merrick) Arnold. He attended school in Wellsville. On November 28, 1952 he married Adah M. McCarthy who predeceased him on May 12, 2007.

Dick was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division, 27th Wolfhound Regiment Second Battalion. He enlisted in the Army November 16, 1948, trained with the 17th Airborne Division, Camp Pickett, Virginia. He also served in Alaska and Canada. During his military service he received many awards, including the Bronze Star with a “V” and a Purple Heart.

He was employed at the Village of Wellsville, Water & Light Department and retired June 14, 1989 as the Electric Superintendent. He was also a member of the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department; Genesee Hose Company # 5.

He is survived by four children, Jolene, Charlene, Dennis and Marlene, a sister, Janice D. Weatherby, two brothers, Robert O. and Walter “Ike” Arnold, several nieces & nephews and many and loyal friends. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by a sister, Vaudine R. King, a son, Ricky Arnold, a daughter, Christine and a brother, Bruce M. Beebe.

At Dick’s request there will be no prior visitation; a private burial with military honors will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville at a later date. Memorial suggestions include the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240-0631
